Craps

Craps is one of the world’s most popular dice games, and has been traced back as far as the early 11th Century. Each and every casino in the entire world has Craps games available, its popularity is shown by the fact that you always find the Craps tables full of excited players.
Admittedly, Craps can be a bit intimidating at first because there are a lot of things that you need to know to play effectively. Below is a basic outline of how to play the game that will give you an overview of how to play.

Craps is played against the casino, not against the other players. Up to sixteen players can participate at one time, depending, of course, on the size of the table. To begin the game, as with most games, each player makes their initial bet with the minimum amount being determined by the table. The first roll by the shooter is called the “come-out roll”, if that roll is a 7 or 11 and if it is “craps” (a roll of 2, 3 or 12) the game is over. Any other roll on the come-out roll is the “point” and a white marker is placed on that number on the table. After “point” is determined, if the next roll is point, the game is over and bets on the “Pass Line” win, those on the “Don’t Pass Line” lose. If that roll is a 7, the game is over and bets on the “Pass Line” lose and the “Don’t Pass Line” win, this also means that the turn of the current shooter is over and is passed to the player on the shooter’s left. Any other roll means that the game continues and the shooter rolls again. Any bets on the Pass Line can be increased, but not removed during the game; while bets on the Don’t Pass Line can be removed or lessened, but not raised. If the game is ended on the come-out roll or point was rolled again, the shooter has two options; he or she can decide to remain the shooter for the next game or they can pass the dice to the next shooter, who would be the person on his or her left. If the game is ended for any other reason, the shooter has to pass the dice on to a new shooter.
In order to help familiarize you with some of the terms used in the game of craps, we have included a small glossary of common terms.

Any Craps - a bet that the next roll will be 2, 3, or 12
Any Seven - a bet that the next roll will be 7
Big 6 - a bet that a 6 will be rolled before a 7 comes up.
Big 8 - a bet that an 8 will be rolled before a 7 comes up.
Come Bet - A "virtual pass line bet"; a bet made after the come out roll but in other respects exactly like a pass line bet.
Double Odds - an odd bet that is about twice as large as the original pass/come bet. Some casinos offer higher odds, such as 5X or even 10X odds.
Hard Way - a bet on 4, 6, 8, or 10 that wins only if the dice show the same face; e.g., "hard 8" occurs when each die shows a four.
Line Bet - a bet on the "pass line" or the "don't pass line" is called a "line" bet. These bets are placed at the beginning of the game, before the "come out" roll. The shooter is required to make a line bet in order to shoot the dice.
